Kinky country music

Every time I hear this song, I decide I need to write it up, but have been forgetting to do so.

Craig Morgan’s probably best known right now for his song “International Harvester” from his Little Bit of Life album, which has been getting a lot of radio airtime over the last 6 months or so. More interesting for us, however, is another song on the same album entitled “Nothin’ Goin’ Wrong Around Here”.

For the most part, the song’s a fairly standard one about small town rural life. Listening to it, I can recognize a lot of Sparkle’s hometown.

However, the last verse gets interesting:

Only time Sheriff Lester breaks his handcuffs out,
Is when his wife’s been drinkin’ and they’re back at the house.
He’ll be walkin’ round for days in a daze grinnin’ ear to ear.
There’s always somethin’ goin’ on but there ain’t nothin’ goin’ wrong around here.

Yee haw!

Come see my surprise

“Mama, daddy, come see my surprise!”

That was how Sparkle and I were interrupted from a bit of post-shower (dressed) cuddling a few minutes ago.

“There’s a surprise?” I asked.

“Uh huh, in my room!”

“Uh oh,” I said to Sparkle, “surprises are often scary.”

I got up and was held back by my 4 year old traffic cop who said “You have to wait for mama.”

Sparkle joined me and we walked into the tike’s bedroom. Other than a pile of toys on the floor, we didn’t see any surprises.

“Look behind you. It’s behind you.”

We turned and saw a picture on the wall, one of the princess’ many art projects.

“Oh, that looks nice honey.”

Very proudly, she said “Yeah. I glued it on the wall!”

A sudden image of the glue sticks we purchased for her at K-Mart last week sent Sparkle running for the cleaning supplies and a chat between the princess and I about why we don’t glue things on the wall.

The princess now has her very own roll of blue painters masking tape.

It’s going to be a LONG Sunday.

And after posting this and heading to shower, that last statement was proven.

Sparkle and I were chuckling over the glue incident, and Sparkle got it in her mind that I should be pinched for some comment I made, resulting in a playful tussle.

From upstairs, we heard “Hey you guys, settle down down there!”

Oh boy.
